the night is long

The longest day of the year is headed our way… and, trust me, us dogs love the dog days of summer. Our weather here in northcentral PA has been a bit wacky over the past few days… it went from 90 to 60, and the wind went from hot to cold. You know what always confuses a dog? The way humans react to the weather! When it’s cold, they complain; when it’s hot, they complain… and it doesn’t seem to matter if those two things happen on consecutive days.

Silly humans, why do you work so hard to get what you don’t even want? It reminds me of that Jearlyn Steele song, “The Day is Short.” Really, that song’s not about the weather. It’s about where lives are headed, and how it’s possible to wake up one day and wonder why we’ve worked so hard to end up at a certain place in life only to realize that that’s not really what we want… I say “we” because I’m including both dogs and humans.

Check out the video below… she sings it a lot better than I can type it!

No real big philosophical thoughts for you today other than that. Where are you headed, and why are you working so hard? Trust me, storing up for yourself treasures that are not material isn’t a bad idea.

Have you ever learned how quickly you can be separated from any earthly treasure and how little can be done about it? It reminds me of that saying, “store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not corrupt and thieves do not break in and steal.” That is to say, not much on Earth is sacred.
